A Rehearsal For President-Elect Joe Biden’s Inauguration Has Been Canceled Due To Alleged Threats Of Violence And Mayhem
Just when we thought 2021 would be better than the last year, we now have to worry about warring mobs of angry people potentially causing chaos, riots, violence or worse at the inauguration of a U.S. president.
Over the last few days, there have been rumors swirling around suggesting that there would be potentially violent protests at all of the U.S. state capitals. The groups were purported to be people affiliated with BLM, Antifa and Trump supporters.
In light of the recent violence at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., law enforcement agencies are on high alert. Reuters reported Friday morning, “A rehearsal for U.S President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration scheduled for Sunday has been postponed because of security concerns.” Biden’s Amtrak trip from Wilmington, his home, to Washington was canceled, also due to heightened security concerns.
Christopher Wray, director of the FBI, said earlier this week that his agency was scrutinizing “individuals who could possibly threaten the safety of the inauguration.”
Lisa Monaco, a former homeland security adviser during the Obama administration, was just brought aboard Biden’s team “to provide security advice regarding the inauguration and related events.” Monaco will focus on the period leading up to the inauguration.
A Biden spokesperson said, “Ms. Monaco will assist the President-elect and work with the incoming national security advisor, the incoming homeland security advisor, and current security and law enforcement officials, including with the United States Secret Service on their plans for the inauguration.”
About 10,000 National Guard members were anticipated to be deployed in Washington, D.C. Some Democratic lawmakers asked for the U.S. army to come to the nation’s capital to ensure the safety and integrity of Biden’s inauguration.
AirBnb canceled all reservations in the Washington, D.C., metro area during President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.
