Gary Gensler’s Old Crypto Lecture Video Stuns Coinbase CEO
A 2018 video of Gary Gensler, former professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and current chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is making rounds on Twitter where he says that cryptocurrencies are as valuable as commodities or cash and are not securities. The video is from Gensler’s lecture on “Blockchain and Money” where he discussed initial coin offerings (ICOs) and their legal status. Gensler said that “three-quarters of the market are not ICOs or not what would be called securities” and called the U.S., Canadian, and Taiwanese markets as the “three jurisdictions that follow something similar to the Howey Test.”
Former JPMorgan Banker With Ties to Jeffrey Epstein Leaves Citigroup
Citigroup Inc. has parted ways with Paul Barrett, an executive in its private bank, after The Wall Street Journal reported on his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Mr. Barrett is a former managing director at JPMorgan Chase & Co., which counted Epstein as a client until 2013. Mr. Barrett is among the JPMorgan executives who continued to plan meetings with Epstein after the bank closed his accounts, the Journal reported Friday.
First-Ever Insider Trading Trial Over NFTs Set To Begin In Manhattan Court
The trial against ex-OpenSea product manager Nathaniel Chastain is set to begin later this week, nearly a year since he was arrested in New York City for wire fraud. Chastain’s arrest came on the tail-end of an FBI investigation into his non-fungible tokens (NFT) dealings, which alleged he had secretly bought NFTs and resold them for two to five times their original value.
‘It’s Concerning’: Tech Firms Are Using NDAs To Illegally Muzzle Whistleblowers By Threatening To Sue Them For Talking, SEC says
Some top US technology companies are forcing workers to sign allegedly illegal labor agreements, according to complaints filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, despite years of enforcement by the agency against the practice. Firms, including an Apple Inc. subcontractor, Electronic Arts Inc. and Block Inc. improperly used non-disclosure agreements that prohibit workers from reporting bad behavior to the SEC, according to tipster complaints viewed by Bloomberg News that were filed with the agency by law firm Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto LLP.
Here’s What You Need To Know About Salary Negotiations
You have been interviewing with a company for a few months, and the firm is finally extending an offer. However, the light at the end of the tunnel dims as the proposed compensation falls below your salary expectations. Understandably, you feel insulted and discouraged, as it does not equitably reflect the knowledge, skills and experience you bring to the table, nor is it commensurate with what you feel the new role requires of you.
A Crash Course In What To Do Before Going Into A Job Interview
The more you research, prepare and practice before the interview, the better your chances of succeeding. In fact, the greater your knowledge is of the job at hand, the industry and your prospective employer, the more relaxed and confident you will feel. Self-confidence will serve you well when interviewing for a new job, as interviewers pick up on this. If you come across confident and adept, you will be viewed favorably.

U.S. Regulators Warn They Already Have The Power To Go After A.I. Bias—And They’re Ready To Use It
Four federal U.S. agencies issued a warning on Tuesday that they already have the authority to tackle harms caused by artificial intelligence bias and they plan to use it. The warning comes as Congress is grappling with how it should take action to protect Americans from potential risks stemming from AI. The urgency behind that push has increased as the technology has rapidly advanced with tools that are readily accessible to consumers, like OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT.
Theranos Founder Elizabeth Holmes Isn’t Headed To Jail Just Yet
Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes will not be heading off to prison tomorrow to begin serving an 11-year sentence, as first reported by the WSJ. Though earlier this month U.S. District Court Judge Edward Davila denied her request to remain free while she appeals her conviction, this week she asked the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals directly if she could stay out of prison while her case makes its way through the appeals process; the request automatically puts her reporting date on hold while the court considers her request, says the Journal.
How To Network On LinkedIn To Get A New Job
To grow your career, you will need to forsake the stereotypical depiction of networking by going to a conference, wearing a name tag on your blazer, forcing a fake smile and shaking hands. As nearly everything is online these days, you can get noticed by recruiters, hiring managers and human resources on social media platforms, such as LinkedIn.
What You Need To Know About Finding And Working With Recruiters
Job hunters go through a cycle. Their initial instinct will be to go to LinkedIn and online job boards and submit their résumés to as many jobs as possible. The lack of responses will make them feel despondent. The job seeker asks their co-workers and friends if they have any leads on job opportunities. Once in a while, they do have a connection, but more often than not, the tip goes nowhere. Now is about the time when the job seeker will think about enlisting the help of a recruiter.
How To Build And Perfect Your Elevator Pitch
A common challenge job hunters have is sometimes they can’t clearly articulate what they do for a living. In an interview, hiring managers will frequently ask, “Can you tell me about yourself?” Most candidates get nervous and start talking about jobs they held in high school and then incoherently meander through the years. This does not sit well with interviewers, who feel their time is wasted by the applicant being unprepared.
