Happy And Succeeding: For Those Who Have Blind Ambition To Achieve Great Things
Our Weekly Roundup
Employee Tracking And Charity Donations: Google, Salesforce, Meta, Apple And Microsoft’s Return-To-Office Plans
Tech companies have been recently cracking down on remote work and are enforcing their return-to-office mandates. In an internal memo on Wednesday, Google informed its workforce that it would be tracking office badge attendance, which will reflect in employee performance reviews, to ensure that the Googlers are working in-office at least three days a week. Employees previously approved to work fully remotely could be denied if Google determines “material changes in business need, role, team, structure or location.” The privilege will only be granted “by exception only.”
The Blind Ambition Podcast
The Blind Ambition with Jack Kelly provides a candid look into the top companies in business and tech. Go behind the scenes with industry and workplace leaders and explore work culture, what it takes to land a role at these companies, and how to build, scale and thrive in your career. Hosted by Jack Kelly and Rick Chen and presented by the professional social network Blind.
Jack and Rick react to Elon Musk's rant about remote work and the white-collar professional. Musk thinks professionals who want to continue working remotely need to stop living in "La La Land" and get back into the office. We discuss whether he's right about working from home and why it might depend on your career level or tenure. Next, Rick recalls the early days of his career and why he thinks the "grunt" work really paid off. Jack tackles the shocking Blind poll that found almost half of all remote workers on Blind work four hours or less a day and shares his best tips for staying productive while at home.
Artificial Intelligence Is Getting Regulated
Artificial intelligence has taken the world by storm. Nvidia, a company that makes AI-related chips, saw its market value rocket to nearly a $1 trillion market capitalization. Almost everyone, from students to JPMorgan, is finding ways to leverage this fast-growing technology. Like any new innovation or product, there is an accompanying concern over how it may affect people. There have been calls for regulation in response to privacy, copyright infringement, disrupting existing businesses, discrimination and other matters.
The SEC’s Situationship With Binance And Coinbase Keeps Getting Messier
It’s been quite a long week (and it’s not over yet). Unless you live under a rock, you know that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission came out guns blazing on Monday and Tuesday, by suing the two largest crypto exchanges, Binance and Coinbase, respectively. It’s important to note that the lawsuits were fairly different, although both exchanges faced securities laws violations. In the Binance suit, the exchange and its CEO Changpeng Zhao as well as two other parties are facing 13 charges including lying to regulators about its operations.
Companies Posting Wide Salary Ranges On Job Advertisements Are Making A Mockery Of Pay Transparency Laws
Companies are gaming pay transparency laws intended to bolster pay equity in the workplace. According to research from Indeed’s Hiring Lab, “Salary ranges advertised on job postings are widening in tech hubs and areas with pay transparency requirements.” Technology hubs and large cities subject to legislation requiring salary disclosures have the widest advertised salary ranges. Companies are making a mockery of the law by posting a huge range, such as $50,000 to $250,000. The significant spread makes it useless for job seekers.
Morgan Stanley Is Cutting Ties With Hedge Fund Manager Crispin Odey After Bombshell Sexual Assault Allegations
The City of London started distancing itself from hedge fund manager Crispin Odey hours after the publication of fresh allegations of sexual assault against women over several decades. Morgan Stanley has begun the process of terminating its prime brokerage relationship with his namesake firm, Odey Asset Management, while JPMorgan Chase & Co. is also reviewing its relationship in light of the claims, according to people with knowledge of the matter, who asked not to be identified because the details are private.
