SEC Sues Binance And CEO Changpeng Zhao For U.S. Securities Violations
The Securities and Exchange Commission filed 13 charges against Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, and its co-founder Changpeng Zhao, alleging that both comingled billions of dollars worth of user funds and sent them to a European company controlled by Zhao. The U.S. regulator alleged that Zhao and his exchange worked to subvert “their own controls” to allow high-net-worth U.S. investors and customers to continue trading on Binance’s unregulated international exchange.
CNN CEO Chris Licht Tries to Soothe Restless Staff: ‘I Should Not Be in the News’
CNN chief Chris Licht told staffers Monday he wants to help them make the news rather than play a central figure in it. In the wake of a devastating profile of the CNN CEO published Friday by The Atlantic, Licht set about soothing frayed nerves Monday by telling employees on the news outlet’s regular morning call that “I should not be in the news unless it’s taking arrows for you. Your work is what should be written about,” according to two people familiar with the matter.

Spotify Laying Off 200 Employees in Reorg of Podcast Division
Spotify is undertaking a “strategic realignment” of its podcast division, laying off about 200 staffers. Sahar Elhabashi, Spotify’s VP, head of podcast business, announced the job cuts in a memo to employees Monday that was shared publicly. The 200 employees represent about 2% of the audio streamer’s worldwide workforce. The layoffs in the podcast group come after Spotify cut 6% of its overall headcount earlier this year and saw the exit of Dawn Ostroff, chief content and advertising business officer, who previously headed Spotify’s podcast business.

There’s a crisis developing in workplaces everywhere. According to an annual survey by Gallup, employee engagement dropped to a seven-year low in 2022. Only a third of workers reported feeling engaged at work, while almost a fifth (18%) described themselves as “actively disengaged.” Gallup’s measure of engagement is made up of several elements, which employees are asked to rate. Those that have declined the most include: clarity of expectations, opportunities to learn and grow, connection to the purpose of the company, opportunities to do what employees do best, and feeling cared about at work.
