Ooops, The 50 Richest Billionaires Lost Half A Trillion Dollars
We may have to start a GoFundMe campaign. I know you're going to be upset by this. You may want to sit down and process this. The 50 richest people in the world have lost more than half a trillion dollars so far this year and the hits keep on coming.
Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffett, and other fatcats are getting crushed. The unrelenting waves of stock selling have wreaked havoc on billionaires. Before you take too much glee in seeing their misfortune, you may want to take a peek at your 401(k) or brokerage accounts. Nevermind. To save your mental health, please don’t read your monthly brokerage statement.
How To Make Money On The Monkeypox
People and companies always find ways to prosper on misery and misfortune. There are heightened concerns over the alleged global spread of monkeypox. This is bad news for the people who get it, but good news for some vaccine and drug companies.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an emergency alert about the recent cases. President Joe Biden sort of said monkeypox “is something that everybody should be concerned about,” including taxing the monkeys responsible for it!
GeoVax Labs Inc. saw its shares soar 70% in afternoon trading on Monday and Emergent Biosolutions Inc. had gains of around 7.3% in trading on Monday. These biotechs are not monkeying around and mean business.
I’m Not Saying This Just Because He’s The Boss
Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX president and COO, who works for and gets paid by Elon Musk said in an email that everything’s cool, and there wasn’t any horsing around on his private jet with a masseuse, according to CNBC.
Shotwell is totally not influenced by the richest African American in the world saying, “Personally, I believe the allegations to be false; not because I work for Elon, but because I have worked closely with him for 20 years and never seen nor heard anything resembling these allegations.” Musk has denied the allegations, referred to as Elongate. Don’t be fooled by the alleged $250,000 severance to the person in question, as it's a mere pittance. It's like five bucks to us regular people.
Come Back To The Office In New York City They Say—What Can Possibly Go Wrong?
Bloomberg reports that the New York City subways and buses have nearly 20% fewer riders than expected. While Mayor McAdams and the Wall Street CEOs are cajoling people to commute from their cushy homes into a potentially dangerous Big Apple.
The New York Post reported, “Goldman Sachs’ New York employees griped that they increasingly face becoming targets of violent crime during their commutes after a co-worker at the megabank was tragically gunned down on the subway.”
This was not an isolated event. There have been an alarmingly large number of violence, shootings and mayhem. It’s understandable that people are pushing back on going to an office. Manhattan's return-to-office data reflects only 8% of workers are in the office on a routine daily basis and nearly 30% continue to work remotely.
