Happy And Succeeding In The Future Of Work
Trends In Human Resources And The Workplace You Need To Know About
Post-Covid America was projected to see a modern-day resurgence of the Roaring Twenties. However, in 2022, Americans are contending with inflation and talks of a recession, stagflation, layoffs, downsizing and war. The economic, geopolitical and macro events impact human resources and the job market, resulting in the following workplace trends.
Surprise: The Hiring Manager Is More Anxious Than The Job Seeker
Here is a hack that will make you feel more confident in your job search: the interviewer and hiring managers are more nervous than you are. It’s hard to wrap your mind around this concept, as people are indoctrinated to think that job seekers should be the ones who are nervous and anxious going into an interview. They worry about being judged. Job hunters must contend with the shame of not moving onto the next level in the interview process. Even worse, they don’t receive feedback and get ghosted. The hiring process feels—to the job seeker—like the company, human resources, management and internal talent acquisition professionals hold all of the power.
Why This Economy Is So Hard To Figure Out
The job market is strong. Layoffs are happening. Businesses are pessimistic. Consumers are still spending. If you’re having a hard time figuring out this economy, you’re not alone — it’s sending all sorts of mixed signals.
58% Of Americans Are Living Paycheck To Paycheck After Inflation Spike — Including 30% Of Those Earning $250,000 Or More
With inflation at 40-year highs, workers across all income levels are having a harder time making ends meet. As of May, 58% of Americans — roughly 150 million adults — live paycheck to paycheck, according to a new LendingClub report. That’s down slightly from 61% who reported living paycheck to paycheck in April but up from 54% in May 2021. Even top earners say they are stretched thin, the report found. Of those earning $250,000 or more, 30% are living paycheck to paycheck.
Why Not A Single Banker Was Jailed Over HSBC’s Billion-Dollar Money Laundering Scandal
No senior banker went to jail over 2008; no HSBC banker was charged, let alone went to jail, when the bank admitted in 2012 to enabling the laundering of billions of dollars of drugs money for El Chapo and his Mexican Sinaloa cartel.
Tech Hiring Slowdown Not Happening, Recruiters Say
Recruiting and economic experts say they aren’t seeing a slowdown in the tech labor market despite some recession fears. They say layoffs and hiring slow-downs are few, leaving the market mostly unmoved. Workers are still “in the driver’s seat” experts said.
Tesla Employees Reportedly Say Crowding And Slow WiFi Is Roiling Elon Musk’s Return-To-Office Mandate
Tesla workers say Elon Musk’s plans for staff to return to the office have been complicated by a lack of space at the company’s Fremont Factory, according to a report from The Information.
