Morgan Stanley’s CEO admitted he ‘was wrong’ when ordered his staff to return to its New York City office in July after the Omicron variant forced workers back home. ‘I was wrong on this,’ James Gorman, 63, admitted. ‘I thought we would have been out of [the pandemic] past Labor Day and we’re not,’ added Gorman who ordered his staff to return to the office by Labor Day or a face a pay cut.

A major payroll company has been crippled by ransomware hackers, leaving some companies around the country scrambling to cover employees’ last paychecks before Christmas and many workers wondering if they’ll get paid on time. Kronos, one of the largest workforce management companies in the U.S., was hit with ransomware Saturday, according to the company’s public updates page, and announced Monday that its programs that rely on cloud services — which a number of companies use to pay employees and manage their hours — would be unavailable for “several weeks.”

Google has told its employees they will lose pay—and will eventually be fired—if they don’t comply with the company’s Covid-19 vaccination policy, according to internal documents viewed by CNBC. A memo circulated by leadership said employees had until Dec. 3 to declare their vaccination status and upload documentation showing proof, or to apply for a medical or religious exemption. The company said after that date it would start contacting employees who hadn’t uploaded their status or were unvaccinated, as well as those whose exemption requests weren’t approved.

A country, the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) has endorsed a House bill that would establish a 32-hour workweek as the nationwide standard for full-time work. The proposal was filed earlier this year by caucus member Rep. Mark Takano (D-California) and would shorten the standard workweek by lowering the threshold for overtime compensation from 40 hours to 32 hours. With standard eight-hour workdays, this would translate to a four-day workweek.
