There is a growing trust gap that is emerging between the C-suite and rank-and-file workers, according to global accounting, audit and management consulting firm PwC’s recent Trust Survey. The study sheds light on the trust levels between business executives, employees and other stakeholders.
A majority of the executive respondents (95%) believe that organizations have a responsibility to build trust, as it can directly impact the company’s bottom line.
When asked how much executives trust their workforce, 86% reported a high level of trust toward employees. However, the survey revealed only 60% of workers feel that their employers trust them.
Business leaders are finding it increasingly harder to build trust with stakeholders, as 94% reported facing at least one challenge. They are well aware that if employees don’t trust them, they risk a drop in productivity, along with diminishing quality of products and services, operational efficiencies and profitability.
“Traditionally, companies have viewed trust among employees as a means to attract and retain talent. But this data shows that lower trust among employees has an immediate impact on everyday operations. The risk is not that people leave—it’s that they stay and work half-heartedly,” the report stated.
Three in Four Employees Say Their Manager Directly Motivates Them to Go Above And Beyond
About three in four employees (73%) say their manager’s support, encouragement, and/or leadership directly motivates them to go above and beyond in the workplace, and more than a third of employees (37%) say having a good manager — one who’s accessible but doesn’t micro-manage — makes them feel the most productive at work. Moreover, according to the UKG study:
87% of employees believe their manager trusts them.
79% of employees say their manager supports their career goals.
75% of employees feel their manager cares for and has empathy for them.
63% of employees say their manager supports them as a whole person.
When it comes to open communication, a pillar of building a great place to work for all people, 59% of employees say their manager is approachable and easy to talk with. A majority of employees also have regular conversations with their manager that motivate them — including 19% of employees who say these conversations occur daily and over one third (35%) saying the constructive chats happen weekly.

Boeing Whistleblower Is Found Dead
Police in Charleston, S.C., are investigating the death of John Barnett, a former Boeing quality control manager who became a whistleblower when he went public with his concerns about serious safety issues in the company's commercial airplanes.
Barnett's body was found in a vehicle in a Holiday Inn parking lot in Charleston on Saturday, police said. One day earlier, he testified in a deposition about the string of problems he says he identified at Boeing's plant where he once helped inspect the 787 Dreamliner aircraft before delivery to customers.
IBM Is Slashing Marketing And Communication Jobs
IBM on Tuesday told employees in its marketing and communications division that it’s slashing the size of its staff, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
Jonathan Adashek, IBM’s chief communications officer, made the announcement in a roughly seven-minute meeting with staffers in the unit, said the person, who asked not to be named because the news hasn’t been made public.
The company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
In December, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna told CNBC that the company was “massively upskilling all of our employees on AI,” after it announced a plan in August to replace nearly 8,000 jobs with AI. IBM said on its earnings call in January of last year that it was cutting 3,900 positions.
Google’s Self-Designed Office Swallows Wi-Fi ‘Like The Bermuda Triangle’
In June last year, Google ended work from home for its employees and asked people to report to the office for at least three days a week. HRs at the tech giant reportedly sent warning emails to employees, asking them to return to offices. It was also reported that Google would be including employee attendance in their performance reviews as well.
Now, as per fresh reports, Google's new office has been facing WiFi issues for months and employees are being told to work outside or from the adjacent cafe for better signals. A Google engineer also said as per the report that the problematic Wi-Fi has not been conducive to Google's efforts in promoting a three-day-per-week return-to-office directive.
