Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman: ‘If You Can Go To A Restaurant In New York City, You Can Come Into The Office’
You may or may not agree with Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman’s stance on remote work, but you have to admire his blunt directness. Gorman, according to the Financial Times, said about his return-to-the-office plan, “If you can go into a restaurant in New York City, you can come into the office.” To underscore his desire for people to return to their respective offices, Gorman said he’d be “very disappointed” if workers have not “found their way into the office” by the Labor Day holiday on September 6.
U.S. Workers Are Among The Most Stressed In The World, New Gallup Report Finds
U.S. workers are some of the most stressed employees in the world, according to Gallup’s latest State of the Global Workplace report, which captures how people are feeling about work and life in the past year. U.S. and Canadian workers, whose survey data are combined in Gallup’s research, ranked highest for daily stress levels of all groups surveyed. Some 57% of U.S. and Canadian workers reported feeling stress on a daily basis, up by eight percentage points from the year prior and compared with 43% of people who feel that way globally, according to Gallup’s 2021 report.

Young white-collar staff feel caught between a rock and a hard place — they value quality of life over old-fashioned 9-5 commuting, but are even more worried about seeing their careers stall unless they head back into an office. CPAs Tell New Jersey Clients It’s Time To Move To Lower-Tax States, Survey Finds
Certified public accountants have a message for New Jersey-based clients: It’s time to move to a lower-cost state. That’s according to a recent survey from the New Jersey Society of CPAs, which found that 70% of professionals surveyed who have clients in the state have advised them to move due to the high cost of living.
MacKenzie Scott Gives Away Another $2.7 Billion To Charity
MacKenzie Scott, the billionaire philanthropist and ex-wife of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, announced Tuesday she has given away more than $2.7 billion to hundreds of groups this year. In a blog post, Scott said she donated to 286 “high-impact organizations” focused on a variety of causes, ranging from the arts and racial justice to higher education and combating domestic violence. The announcement marks Scott’s first donation since she remarried to Dan Jewett, a Seattle science teacher, earlier this year.

Sarah Kate Ellis was named President and CEO of GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, in early 2014 after a successful career as a media executive at top magazine brands such as Real Simple, InStyle and Vogue. Though Ellis, 49, is now a happily married mother of two, who fights for LGBTQ+ rights, it took her a long time to come out at work during the late ’90s and early 2000s. “I wanted to succeed,” Ellis tells CNBC Make It. “And I felt that once I came out at work, I wouldn’t be known for my work; I would be known for my identity. And that’s what stalled me for so long.”
