Multiple U.S. Service Members Were Killed In The Attack Near Kabul Airport, Pentagon Says
The Pentagon on Thursday confirmed that several U.S. service members have been killed after two explosions went off near Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. “We can confirm that a number of U.S. service members were killed in today’s complex attack at Kabul airport. A number of others are being treated for wounds,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said in a statement. “We also know that a number of Afghans fell victim to this heinous attack. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones and teammates of all those killed and injured,” he added.

Weekly Jobless Claims Hold Around Pandemic-Era Low
Initial claims for unemployment insurance were little changed over the past week, hovering around coronavirus pandemic-era lows as the jobs market shows further signs of healing. First-time filings totaled 353,000 for the week ended Aug. 21, a slight increase from the previous week’s 349,000, the Labor Department reported Thursday. That was slightly worse than the 350,000 Dow Jones estimate.

Soon after Pfizer and BioNTech’s (PFE) COVID-19 vaccine got full Food and Drug Administration approval on Monday, more employers announced vaccination requirements for their workers. The share of online job searches for remote positions jumped 460% in the two years between June 2019 and June 2021, according to an analysis published Monday by job site Glassdoor. That bump isn’t siloed in a handful of occupations, but is widespread across a host of different jobs.
