After A Stressful Year, One Third Of White-Collar Professionals Surveyed Plan To Take A Much-Needed Three-Week Vacation
After over a year of staying at home, working long hours into the evening and weekends, afraid of losing your job and worried about catching Covid-19, it's time for a much-needed vacation break. According to a study from Robert Half, a large global recruiting firm, “Many workers are worn out and ready to make up for lost vacation time.” Around 44% of the respondents said that they are “more burned out on the job today compared to a year ago, up from 34% in a similar 2020 poll.”
Snagajob And Adzuna Are Helping Change The ‘Worker Shortage’ By Connecting Blue-Collar And Non-College-Degreed Workers With Well-Paying Jobs
The biggest and most surprising story is the United States’ current worker shortage. People in the hospitality, retail, restaurant, fulfillment and warehouse sectors, along with other blue-collar workers, bore the brunt of the massive layoffs at the offset of the Covid-19 outbreak. Now, the very same workers are in high demand. Companies loudly complain that they can’t fill openings and are losing business because there aren’t enough job applicants.
Gottlieb Says There’s Growing Circumstantial Evidence That Covid May Have Originated In A Lab
Evidence that Covid-19 originally leaked from a Wuhan, China, virology lab is growing, Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC on Monday, pointing to reports that three researchers from the lab sought hospital care with a Covid-like illness in November 2019.
Sex, Alcohol, And Shopping: The Favorite Activities Of Home Workers And Their High Cost
A survey from LED lighting firm e-conolight asked 1,000 Americans how much of their 40-hour workweek is spent actually working. The majority of participants (41.9%) said they spend 4-6 hours focused on work each day, while 34.1% put this figure at 7+ hours. However, not everyone is so dedicated: 21.3% focus on work for just 1-3 hours per day, 2.5% spend less than one hour concentrating on their job, and 0.2% don’t concentrate on work at all—one assumes they must have the kind of job where that’s possible.
900 People A Day Are Moving To Florida, Many Fleeing ‘Tax Hell’ In New York And New Jersey, The State’s CFO Said
About 900 people a day are moving to Florida, the state’s CFO, Jimmy Patronis, told Fox Business on Monday, attributing it mainly to higher taxes in states such as New York and New Jersey. Migration to Florida had steadily risen over the past decade before booming during the coronavirus pandemic as remote working and the warm climate drew people to the Sunshine State.

We Need To Talk About How The New Way To Work Is About Outcomes, Not Hours
As the workplace revolution accelerates, we are witnessing an overhaul in what it means for companies to be flexible. The conversation is no longer solely focused on work-from-home or even hybrid work. Due to generational demand and the shift of the workplace overtime, flexibility is transforming. From unlimited vacation policies to asynchronous schedules, companies and their employees are adapting at a rapid pace. With these seismic shifts it is imperative that organizations rethink how success is evaluated and implement an employee performance model that is focused on results, not “chair time.”
Infamous Bitcoin Pizza Guy Who Squandered $365M Haul Has No Regrets
In May 2010, California student Jeremy Sturdivant, then 19, noticed a bizarre request on a cryptocurrency Internet forum: He could receive 10,000 Bitcoins, at the time reportedly valued at $41, in exchange for the delivery of two large pizzas to Florida resident Laszlo Hanyecz, 28.
Jobs Are Back—But Pay Isn’t
Why aren’t workers flooding back to millions of open jobs? The latest data shows there are 8.1 million jobs available in the U.S. economy, the most since at least 2000. But hiring is weak and the unemployment rate is going up, not down. Many Republicans claim federal unemployment benefits of $300 per week, on top of what states pay, are making it more lucrative for unemployed Americans to collect benefits than rejoin the labor force. At least 22 states—all with Republican governors—are ending the federal jobless benefit early.
Workers Aren’t Being Told If They’re Going Back To The Office—And It’s Hurting Morale
As vaccinations and relaxed health guidelines make returning to the office a reality for more companies, there seems to be a disconnect between managers and their workers over remote work. A good example of this is a recent op-ed written by the CEO of a Washington, D.C., magazine that suggested workers could lose benefits like health care if they insist on continuing to work remotely as the COVID-19 pandemic recedes. The staff reacted by refusing to publish for a day.
