TikTok Is Testing A New Gen-Z Friendly Résumé Video Feature: Will Gen-Xers And Baby Boomers Feel Excluded?
TikTok is evolving and expanding. While it’s best known for its fun, quirky and creative short bursts of video entertainment, the platform is growing up. The social media app, predominantly used by Gen-Z and Millennials, may be branching out to a larger audience. The site already has workplace, career and job-related creative content at #CareerTok. The next step for TikTok is testing a “channel for recruitment.” This feature will allow for “short, creative videos, combined with TikTok’s easy-to-use, built-in creation tools” and the ability for companies “to discover talented candidates and career opportunities.”

The Job Market Is Heating Up—And So Are Angry Complaints From Job Seekers
The job market has heated up and so have the complaints from job seekers. The comments have central themes. They include outrage over being pressured to undergo three to 10 interviews over six months or more. Some are asked to take tests, do projects or sit for invasive psychometric exams. There’s a lack of feedback and long periods of an absence of communication. No appreciation is extended to applicants for their time. Rude and dismissive treatment is commonplace. After all of the meetings, they complain of getting ghosted.
Remote Workers Point To Violence, Crime And A Decrepit Mass Transit System As Reasons Not To Return To New York City Offices
New York City has a crime, violence, drug and homelessness problem. This could have serious repercussions for people contemplating returning to work at their offices. Gun violence has become so rampant that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo “issued the first-in-the-nation executive order declaring gun violence in New York as a disaster emergency,” which would be “the first step in a comprehensive plan that aims to tackle the surge in gun violence throughout the state,” reported NBC News.
Why Wage Increases And Sign-On Bonuses Aren’t Enticing Workers To Search For New Jobs
Business owners, economists and the media are racking their brains trying to figure out why there is a lack of workers for all of the jobs that are open. Restaurants, retail stores and shops complain that they can’t keep up with demand without the help. A new 5,000-person survey from Indeed, the large job aggregation site, offers some insights to this conundrum. The study shows that “many job seekers say they don’t feel a sense of urgency.” The results indicate that “the unemployed don’t feel they need to find a job right away, but do want to return to work sometime in the next three months.”
Iceland Tried A Shortened Workweek And It Was An ‘Overwhelming Success’
As remote work became a roaring success for both companies and employees during the pandemic, it opened our eyes to new possibilities of how we can lead a better work-life balance. We now know that it’s not necessary to be stuck in an office building for over eight hours a day, five days a week.
Declare Your Independence By Finding A Great New Job
There has been a lot of talk about The “Great Resignation.” The theory, promoted by Texas A&M professor Anthony Klotz, states, “When there’s uncertainty, people tend to stay put, so there are pent-up resignations that didn’t happen over the past year.” Now that the economy and job market has heated up, people will start actively searching for a new job—some quitting without a new job in hand.
